Reflective listening involves being a mirror and listening with
a third ear to what could be underneath the surface behaviour
and/or emotion. By practicing reflective listening, you are reflecting
your teen’s feelings and the circumstances of those feelings.
Ask yourself what your teen may be feeling at the moment and
what may have brought on this feeling. This may help identify
the real problem.
Use phrases like
I wonder if…
I might be wrong, but…
I get the impression that…
Could it be that…
Do you feel…
Sounds like you…
