Client Bill of Rights and Responsibilities
The Youth Centre has nurses, nurse practitioners and physicians who are able to meet with you individually and spend time with you, free-of-charge. They are able to give you the information you need to make healthy choices and answer your questions.
Our medical team provide wellness care including full physicals, routine pap exams, routine immunizations, TB skin tests, annual flu shots, acne treatment, help to quit smoking, and weight management and treatment. We are also able to provide treatments for common illnesses including bladder infections, ear infections, sore throats, chest infections and skin infections. We also provide and support mental health counselling, do assessments and treatment of depression, anxiety and eating disorders. We offer full prenatal and postnatal care, including pregnancy testing and options counselling. We also provide well baby support, assess development and growth, and provide routine immunizations for children. We teach about healthy choices, healthy relationships, abstinence, and provide and sell a wide variety of birth control, contraception and emergency contraception.
At the Youth Centre we offer blood tests including HIV, Syphilis and Hepatitis testing. Also, we provide testing for all sexually transmitted infections, and provide treatments as well, at no cost.
It is our hope that by offering non-appointment hours that it will make our medical staff more available to those who are in need of more "same day care", such as sore throats, ear infections, bladder infections, medication renewals, blood pressure checks, fevers, flu-like illnesses, emergency contraception or medication administration (eg. Depo-Provera). Also, pregnancy testing and STI testing as appropriate, although follow-up appointments may be necessary.
Clients requesting complete birth control counselling, annual physical exams, well baby checks, more in-depth mental health assessment and counselling or anything else that may take longer than 15-20 minutes will be asked to book an appointment with a medical provider.
